[from myroblyte] Episcopalians Weigh Sainthood for Marshall

The Episcopal Church in the U.S. is considering canonizing Thurgood Marshall. I didn't even know Episcopalians did such things.

It is not "sainthood" in the Roman Catholic sense. It is a recognition of him, by setting aside one day a year (May 17th, when Brown vs. Board was decided) to honor him, and he would be listed in the Episcopal Church's book, "Lesser Feasts and Fasts." It is not "sainthood," as it does not require miracles nor the other requirements of the Roman Catholic faith. Also, the Episcopal Church does not practice prayer to these figures in the way that the Roman Catholic church does.

I think it is wonderful for Thurgood Marshall to be honored in this way, and it makes sense to remember him as an example of a courageous leader...

Those are my 2 cents...
