Like the wiki? Make your own

PBwiki logoIncidentally, if anyone reading this is interested in creating their own free wiki -- which have myriad uses, both for individuals and groups -- I strongly recommend PBwiki (the PB stands for peanut butter; their tagline, which I find annoying, is: “PBwiki makes creating a wiki as easy as making a peanut butter sandwich." As annoying as it is, though, it's true. You can create a free, full-featured wiki with minimal ads in under a minute.) I've found it incredibly easy to use. I am only using Wikispaces for this project because of the easy integration with Blogspot, which, unfortunately, now doesn't seem to work anyhow. Another free wiki farm is Schtuff, which is good too but much more of a pain to use. Probably as far as both ease of use and power are concerned, PBwiki is my favorite so far.

UPDATE: Wikispaces's James Byers contacted me (in the comments) almost immediately after I posted this, and in response I tried the Blogger integration again. This time, I got it to work right away. Sorry, James. I take it back. But I swear, I'm not making this up; for several weeks each time I went to the integration page, nothing happened.
Okay, it's more or less a toss-up, for my purposes, between PBwiki and Wikispaces. Wikispaces has one-step blog integration. PBwiki has better print support and, for my sensibility, a cleaner L&F and super-simple interface. And regarding my comments on Schtuff, I should be more specific; it's quite powerful, allowing easy tagging and saved searches, among other things, but the interface is a little idiosyncratic and cumbersome for my taste. That's enuf geekery for now.

Hi Nathan,

We'd be happy to help figure out what's going wrong with Blogger integration. We've got a lot of people using this feature and we're always looking to improve it. Feel free to drop us a note at help@wiksipaces.com.

Best,
James
